Abstract
Background:Herpessimplexvirus(HSV)replicationcanbedetectedintherespiratorysecretionsofahighproportionofventilatedintensivecareunit(ICU)patients.However,theclinicalsignificanceremainspoorlydefined.Weinvestigatedwhetherpatientswithventilator-associatedpneumonianotrespondingtoantibioticsandinwhomhighlevelsofHSVcouldbedetectedinrespiratorysecretionsbenefitfromacyclovirtreatment.
